Planet One Group is strengthening its collaboration with the Senegalese government through a long-term partnership focused on skills development, industrial growth, and high-value-added investments. Its president, Sanjeev Mansotra, confirmed this following high-level discussions in Dakar.
During his recent visit, Sanjeev Mansotra met with the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. Discussions focused on projects already underway by Planet One in the country, as well as new avenues for cooperation aligned with national priorities, particularly in the areas of education, mining, oil, and gas.
A central pillar of this partnership rests on the creation of 15 state-of-the-art technical and vocational training centers (TVETs), developed within the framework of a public-private partnership. Once operational, these centers will train 8,000 young people each year, providing them with skills directly tailored to the needs of strategic sectors, thereby strengthening the country's pool of skilled labor.
“Senegal is demonstrating clear leadership by aligning skills development with its economic strategy,” said Sanjeev Mansotra. “By investing in modern training infrastructure and programs tailored to business needs, the country is laying the foundations for inclusive, competitive, and sustainable growth. Our partnership aims to translate political ambitions into concrete results for young people and the economy.”
Discussions also focused on a strategic investment project in the mining sector, with a particular emphasis on developing local capacity, creating value locally, and generating sustainable jobs. In a context of strong global demand for strategic minerals, this project aims to ensure that economic benefits accrue primarily to Senegal, while promoting responsible resource exploitation.
“Across Africa, governments are now looking to move up the value chain: it’s no longer just about exporting raw materials, but about building local industrial capacity,” Mansotra added. “Senegal’s approach is fully aligned with this dynamic, and we see real opportunities to support its ambitions while contributing to regional development in West Africa.”
Planet One's commitment to Senegal is part of a broader strategy across the African continent, where the group collaborates with governments to implement projects in education, skills, and infrastructure, directly addressing labor market needs and national priorities. These initiatives could serve as a model for other West African countries facing similar challenges, such as youth unemployment, skills shortages, and the need for industrial growth.
“Our goal is to build sustainable partnerships,” concluded Sanjeev Mansotra. “When governments and the private sector move forward together with a shared vision, the impact goes far beyond individual projects: it helps build stronger economies and more resilient societies.”
