The last name of the American president Donald Trump The name "Trump" has been removed from the name of Washington's renowned performing arts center following a court ruling. Officials at the cultural complex confirmed they complied with a federal court order requiring the removal of the reference to Trump from the institution's official name.
In a court document, Matt Floca, the center's director, stated that all signs displaying Donald Trump's name had been removed from the building and the cultural center's campus. This measure also applies to all other references visible on the site.
The case originates from a decision announced by the White House in December 2025. The authorities had then indicated that the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts would be renamed "Trump-Kennedy Center", resulting in the addition of the president's name on the building and the institution's official materials.
This initiative sparked a heated controversy in the art world. Several prominent figures denounced this symbolic change, arguing that it politicized an iconic cultural institution. Among the most notable reactions was the cancellation of his Christmas Eve concert by musician Chuck Redd, who had performed regularly at the Kennedy Center since 2006.
In February, Donald Trump also announced the closure of the center starting July 4th to allow for a major renovation project. The work was to include the construction of a new entertainment complex as part of a two-year modernization program.
On May 30, Federal Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that the name "Trump" should be removed from the name "Trump John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts." The decision has now been implemented, ending months of controversy surrounding one of the most famous cultural institutions in the United States.
