Several European countries will repatriate their citizens from the ship affected by the hantavirus

Germany, France, Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands have confirmed they are sending planes to repatriate their citizens from the MV cruise ship. HondiusSpain has been hit by a hantavirus epidemic, the Spanish Interior Minister announced on Saturday.

The ship is due to arrive at the port of Granadilla de Abona, in Tenerife, Canary Islands, as European health authorities continue their efforts to contain the epidemic.

According to Spanish minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the European Union is also mobilizing two additional planes to evacuate the other European citizens on board.

The United States and the United Kingdom have also confirmed the preparation of flights and contingency plans for their nationals as well as for passengers from countries without sufficient air transport capacity.

This operation comes after several deaths and confirmed or suspected cases of hantavirus on board the cruise ship. International health authorities are currently working on quarantine, screening, and passenger monitoring protocols to prevent any further spread of the virus.
