Beijing welcomes Pyongyang's progress despite Western pressure and strengthens its ties with North Korea

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised North Korea's "remarkable progress" despite what he called pressure from the United States and its Western allies. His remarks were reported by the official North Korean news agency KCNA.

During his visit to Pyongyang, Wang Yi met with his counterpart Choe Son Hui, with both officials expressing their desire to further strengthen bilateral relations. They also commended each other's leaders for ushering in "a new era" in relations between their countries.

The Chinese foreign minister attributed North Korea's advances to the leadership of Kim Jong Un, stating that these results were achieved despite attempts at isolation by Washington and its partners.

This visit comes amid a growing rapprochement between Beijing and Pyongyang, marked by a summit described as historic last September. The two countries intend to deepen their cooperation in various fields, particularly political and economic.

For China, the stability of the Korean Peninsula remains a major strategic issue, as tensions persist with the United States and its allies in Asia.

Wang Yi's statements also illustrate Beijing's willingness to publicly support North Korea in the face of international pressure, in a geopolitical context marked by increased rivalries between major powers.

This diplomatic rapprochement could thus reshape regional balances, while relations between Pyongyang and Western countries remain severely strained.
