Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his hope on Sunday for a rapid normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, including the opening of borders and the resumption of rail and road links.
Speaking after voting in the parliamentary elections, he stated that he believed a diplomatic rapprochement between Yerevan and Ankara was possible in the near future. He also emphasized that the region was already experiencing gradual stabilization, citing the peace agreement with Azerbaijan and the close relations with Georgia.
The head of the Armenian government highlighted his "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, aimed at developing regional transport corridors linking east and west as well as north and south, with the objective of strengthening trade between Armenia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran.
On the diplomatic front, Pashinyan confirmed Armenia's desire to continue its rapprochement with the European Union. He nevertheless emphasized a "balanced foreign policy," stating that the country would continue to maintain stable relations with Russia while gradually aligning itself with European norms.
According to him, even without future EU membership, this alignment process would allow Armenia to modernize its institutions and strengthen its internal development.
