Nuclear – Iranian president defies Trump and asserts Tehran's "rights"

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian firmly defended his country's nuclear rights, rejecting criticism from the United States and denouncing statements from Donald Trump, in a context of persistent tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Speaking to the ISNA news agency, Pezeshkian asserted that the US president had "no justification" for challenging Iran's nuclear rights. He questioned Washington's legitimacy in imposing restrictions on Tehran.

"Trump claims that Iran cannot use its nuclear rights, but he does not specify what crime this is. Who is he to deprive a nation of its rights?" the Iranian leader said, according to the agency.

These statements come as negotiations between the two countries remain deadlocked, particularly on the issue of the Iranian nuclear program, which is at the heart of diplomatic disagreements.

Iran regularly insists on its right to develop a civilian nuclear program, while the United States and its allies express concerns about the risks of proliferation.

In this tense context, Pezeshkian's remarks illustrate Tehran's firmness in the ongoing discussions, while the prospect of a lasting agreement remains uncertain.
