Netanyahu requests a postponement of his testimony in his corruption trial

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has requested a postponement of his testimony in his corruption trial, citing the tense security and diplomatic situation in the Middle East.

In a request filed with the Jerusalem court, his lawyers indicated that the head of government would not be able to appear for at least two weeks, due to "classified" matters related to recent events in Israel and the region.

The trial, which has been ongoing for several years, was scheduled to resume on Sunday after the lifting of the state of emergency declared during the war against Iran. This suspension had led to the temporary halt of numerous activities, including court hearings.

Netanyahu's defense team stated that they had submitted confidential documents to the court in a sealed envelope to justify their request for a postponement. The final decision will rest with the judges, after they have reviewed the prosecution's response.

Despite this request, the Prime Minister's lawyers indicated they were prepared to continue hearing a prosecution witness in the meantime.

Benjamin Netanyahu is the first sitting Israeli prime minister to stand trial in a criminal case. He is accused of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, charges he strongly denies.

This potential new postponement comes in a particularly sensitive political and security context, where government priorities related to the regional conflict could weigh on the judicial calendar.
