Tensions in Madrid: Tens of thousands of protesters demand the downfall of Pedro Sánchez

Tens of thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday in the streets of Madrid to demand the resignation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, weakened by a series of corruption scandals that are shaking his government.

The demonstration, organized in particular by the far-right VOX party, drew a large crowd in the Spanish capital. Protesters held banners calling for the government's resignation and denouncing the country's current political situation.

The demonstration at times degenerated into clashes with law enforcement. According to authorities, at least seven police officers were injured during the incidents. A group of protesters attempted to breach the barricades erected around the official residence of the head of government.

Despite these tensions, the rally largely proceeded without major violence. Security forces were heavily deployed in several Madrid neighborhoods to prevent the clashes from escalating.

Political pressure on Pedro Sánchez continues to mount as the opposition attempts to capitalize on corruption allegations against members of his political inner circle. These cases have fueled a climate of intense polarization in Spain for several weeks.

This new mobilization illustrates the extent of the anger of a part of the population against the Spanish government, in a context of growing political tensions as the next elections approach.
