Le président américain Donald Trump said on Friday that his patience with Iran was "running out", further increasing pressure on Tehran amid high regional tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and global energy security.
Speaking aboard Air Force One on his return to the United States, Donald Trump stated that he had discussed the situation with the Chinese president. Xi JinpingAccording to him, the two leaders agreed on the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, a strategic passage through which a significant portion of the world's oil passes.
The US president also rejected the idea that he had asked Beijing for special favors in managing the crisis. "Iran must reach an agreement," Trump insisted, without specifying the exact conditions he wanted to impose on Tehran.
On the Chinese side, authorities asserted that the war "should never have happened," while calling for diplomatic de-escalation. Beijing, heavily reliant on energy imports transiting through the Gulf, is following with concern the disruptions caused by the conflict and the threats to maritime routes.
Iran, for its part, has stated that it is ready either to reach an agreement or to resume hostilities. This position underscores the fragility of the ceasefire observed in recent weeks following a series of strikes and clashes that have affected several countries in the Middle East.
The current crisis continues to shake global energy markets and worry major powers. The Strait of Hormuz remains at the heart of international concerns, as any prolonged disruption to maritime traffic in this area could have major global economic consequences.
