Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva strongly criticized the statements of his American counterpart. Donald Trump, calling on world leaders to prioritize respect over threats in the conduct of international affairs.
In an interview with the Spanish daily El País, Lula denounced the American president's remarks regarding Iran, stating that a head of state "does not have the right to wake up in the morning and threaten a country." He deemed this attitude contrary to democratic principles and the responsibilities of a leader.
The Brazilian president also criticized Washington's approach to foreign policy, which he described as a strategy based on fear. According to him, international relations should be based on dialogue and mutual respect between nations.
Beyond the Iranian issue, Lula denounced what he considers to be American interference in other countries, particularly Venezuela, calling for sovereign political processes without external intervention.
In his remarks, the Brazilian leader also stressed that political leaders, especially older ones, should show "maturity" in their statements, in an international context marked by strong tensions.
These criticisms come as Lula is scheduled to meet in Barcelona with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who is also critical of Donald Trump's policies. This sequence of events illustrates the growing differences between certain Western powers regarding the management of international crises.
