Ukraine is preparing for a new Russian offensive towards Kyiv and is strengthening its defenses in the north.

Ukraine announced on Wednesday the deployment of military reinforcements to the north of the country in response to what it considers a possible Russian preparation for a new offensive towards Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky He stated that Ukrainian intelligence services had identified several scenarios devised by Moscow to extend the war along the axis linking Chernihiv to the Ukrainian capital. According to him, Ukrainian forces present in this strategic area will be reinforced in the coming days.

In a message posted on X, Zelensky stated that Kyiv had conducted a detailed analysis of Russian offensive plans concerning the north of the country. He also indicated that Ukraine would intensify diplomatic pressure on Belarus, a close ally of Russia, to prevent any involvement in a new attack against Ukrainian territory.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian authorities have issued repeated warnings about unusual activity near the Belarusian border. Zelensky referred to suspicious movements without providing further public details about the intelligence gathered.

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated on Tuesday that the Russian General Staff was actively working on preparing offensive operations from the north. According to him, Moscow is studying several strategic options to increase military pressure on Ukraine.

The memory of the Russian offensive launched from Belarus at the start of the 2022 invasion remains particularly vivid in Kyiv. Russian troops had then advanced rapidly towards the capital before being repelled by Ukrainian forces.

This new escalation of tensions comes as fighting remains intense on several fronts in eastern and southern Ukraine, while Moscow seeks to maintain military and psychological pressure on the Ukrainian government.
