Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met on Tuesday in Kyiv with the CEO of Palantir Technologies, Alex Karp, as Ukraine accelerates the integration of artificial intelligence into its military operations against Russia.
According to Ukrainian authorities, Kyiv is working with Palantir on a project called "Brave1 Dataroom", intended to develop artificial intelligence systems from combat data collected since the 2022 Russian invasion. The objective is in particular to improve the detection and interception of Russian drones.
After the meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that "technology, AI, data analysis and the mathematics of war" now play a direct role in the outcome of battles.
For several months, the Ukrainian government has been seeking to modernize its military apparatus through new technologies. Mykhailo Fedorov, appointed in January with the promise of transforming the army around data and digital tools, indicated that more than 100 companies are currently working on over 80 artificial intelligence models related to air defense.
These systems should make it possible to better identify aerial threats, anticipate drone trajectories and strengthen the reaction capabilities of Ukrainian forces in the face of increasingly frequent Russian attacks.
Cooperation with Palantir also illustrates the growing importance of Western technology companies in the Ukrainian conflict. Since the beginning of the war, several companies specializing in data, satellites, or military software have been working closely with Kyiv.
As the war between Russia and Ukraine drags on, new technologies and artificial intelligence are increasingly emerging as central elements of modern military strategies, profoundly transforming the way conflicts are conducted on the ground.
