Ukraine announces a military revolution: artificial intelligence could redefine warfare in the coming years

Artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming the conduct of armed conflicts, and this evolution is only just beginning. This is the analysis formulated by a senior Ukrainian defense official, who believes that the coming years will see the emergence of a "new paradigm" of warfare based on the massive integration of AI systems on the battlefield.

According to Danylo Tsvok, director of the artificial intelligence center at the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Ukraine is already using these technologies in numerous military fields. AI systems are used, among other things, to guide drones to their targets, to assist in the planning of combat operations, and to analyze data related to Russian missile strikes.

For Kyiv, the next step will be to link these different tools within a single network capable of monitoring and coordinating all military operations in real time. Such an architecture would significantly accelerate decision-making and improve the responsiveness of forces deployed in the field.

“AI will create a new paradigm of warfare. It is already actively doing so,” Danylo Tsvok told Reuters. He believes future conflicts could be marked by a confrontation between integrated digital systems capable of analyzing vast amounts of data and instantly recommending military actions.

The Ukrainian official believes that over the next three to five years, if the war continues, the confrontation could evolve into what he describes as an "operating systems war" between Ukraine and Russia. Each side would then seek to develop increasingly powerful AI platforms in order to gain an advantage on the battlefield.

Russia is also investing in these technologies. Moscow is already using artificial intelligence to improve certain capabilities of its drones and missiles, fueling an increasingly intense technological competition between the two countries.

As militaries around the world closely monitor the innovations being tested in Ukraine, the conflict has become a full-scale laboratory for future military technologies. Ukrainian officials now consider artificial intelligence as strategically important as traditional weaponry in future wars.
