A 45-year-old British man will stand trial next year after a knife attack targeting two Jewish men in north London. A London court announced Friday that the trial of Essa Suleiman, accused of attempted murder, is scheduled for next March.
The man, a British national born in Somalia, is accused of attempting to murder two Jewish men on April 29 in the Golders Green area, known for its large Jewish community. The attack sparked outrage in the UK and led to a major police response.
According to authorities, the two victims were stabbed during the attack, the exact circumstances of which are still being investigated. British police are continuing their investigation to determine the suspect's precise motives and whether the act was motivated by antisemitic hatred.
Images taken after the attack showed a large security perimeter set up by police in the streets of Golders Green. This area in north London is one of the main centers of the British Jewish community.
The case comes amid growing concerns about antisemitic acts in the UK and several European countries. British authorities have increased surveillance around certain places of worship and sensitive areas following several recent incidents.
Essa Suleiman remains charged with attempted murder and will face trial in March. Authorities have not released any further details regarding his potential defense or the current condition of the victims.
