The WHO releases $2 million in emergency aid for Lebanon, Iraq and Syria

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it has released $2 million from its Contingency Fund for Emergencies to support the health response in Lebanon, Iraq and Syria.

This aid aims to strengthen health services in these countries facing the humanitarian consequences of the current crisis in the Middle East, marked by the intensification of fighting involving Israel, Iran and their allies in the region.

According to the WHO, the conflict has caused significant population displacement. The organization estimates that more than 100,000 people have been displaced in Iran, while in Lebanon the number of internally displaced persons could reach 700,000.

The funds released should be used to support hospitals, supply medical facilities with medicines and emergency equipment, and improve the care of the wounded and displaced populations.

The WHO also warned that health systems in several countries in the region are under increasing pressure due to the influx of patients, damage to infrastructure and a lack of medical resources.

The international organization is therefore calling for a broader mobilization of the international community to prevent a worsening of the humanitarian crisis throughout the Middle East.
