Italy denounces the "illegal" interception of a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza

Italy strongly condemned Israel's interception of ships carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, calling the operation "illegal" and demanding the immediate release of its citizens involved.

According to the government led by Giorgia MeloniSeveral Italian citizens are among those detained following the Israeli intervention. Rome is demanding their swift release, denouncing the action as a violation of international law.

The ships, part of the "Sumud Global Flotilla," were intercepted in international waters near Greece, according to the organizers. They accused Israel of piracy, claiming the vessels were carrying only aid for the war-torn population of Gaza.

This incident comes amid extreme tensions in the Middle East, where humanitarian access to Gaza remains severely limited. The Palestinian enclave is facing a major humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by fighting and restrictions on the delivery of aid.

Other European countries are closely monitoring the situation, while calls to guarantee the safety of humanitarian missions at sea are multiplying. This episode risks further escalating diplomatic tensions between Israel and several European capitals.
