Iran announced on Sunday that it would not participate in the technical talks that were to be held with the United States, citing recent attacks on its territory as well as the failure to comply with certain conditions stipulated in the memorandum of understanding concluded between the two countries.

The information was provided by Mehdi Fazaeli, a member of the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the Works of the Iranian Supreme Leader, during an appearance on state television. According to him, current circumstances do not allow for the continuation of the planned technical discussions.

The Iranian official stated that one of the key conditions of the agreement concerned Iran's access to its frozen financial assets abroad. He explained that the Iranian authorities wanted to verify whether these funds were indeed accessible before continuing negotiations.

"One of the reasons is to check if we have access to the unfrozen funds. If there is no access, this condition has not been met," said Mehdi Fazaeli, suggesting that respecting financial commitments is an essential prerequisite for resuming dialogue.

This decision comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent attacks targeting Iran. No timetable has been announced for a possible resumption of technical talks between Tehran and Washington.
