Iran has submitted its response to a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict that has been shaking the region for more than two months, according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA.
According to this source, the Iranian response was delivered to Pakistan, which is currently playing a mediating role between Tehran and the United States in discussions aimed at achieving military de-escalation.
A source close to the matter told IRNA that the Iranian proposal stipulates that the current phase of negotiations be devoted exclusively to a cessation of hostilities in the region. No further details were provided regarding the specific conditions put forward by Tehran.
This development comes as regional tensions remain extremely high after more than two months of war involving Iran, the United States and Israel, a conflict that continues to fuel international concerns about the risks of conflagration in the Middle East.
The use of Pakistan as a diplomatic intermediary also underlines the difficulty of direct exchanges between Washington and Tehran, whose relations remain deeply deteriorated despite several mediation attempts in recent years.
International markets and Western capitals are following these discussions closely, particularly because of the consequences of the conflict on energy prices and maritime security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
No official reaction from US authorities had yet been released at the time the information was published. The prospects for a ceasefire remain uncertain, but this Iranian response appears to be a sign of continued diplomatic efforts to try to end the fighting.
Since the beginning of the war, several countries and international organizations have been making repeated calls for de-escalation in order to avoid an escalation of the conflict and its repercussions throughout the region.
