Tensions between Trump and US allies could outlast the war against Iran.

Recent decisions by the American president Donald Trump fuel concerns among several traditional allies of Washington, who fear a lasting weakening of US strategic relations beyond the conflict with Iran.

According to Reuters, Trump's willingness to withdraw some of the American troops stationed in Germany, as well as his threats to reduce the American military presence elsewhere in Europe, have revived doubts about the reliability of the United States in the event of a future international crisis.

European and Middle Eastern officials are also concerned about Washington's perceived limited response to recent Iranian attacks targeting a key Gulf partner. Several allies believe this stance could undermine American security guarantees.

While the United States and Iran appear to be gradually moving closer to a possible de-escalation after several weeks of war, Trump's political and military choices could leave lasting marks on relations with Washington's historical partners, from Europe to the Indo-Pacific region.

Diplomats and analysts interviewed by Reuters believe that this crisis has heightened questions about the American commitment to its traditional alliances, at a time when global geopolitical tensions remain high.
