The United Kingdom and Poland are strengthening their military cooperation against Russia

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday that the new treaty between Poland and the United Kingdom would be centered on defense against Russia, as he traveled to London to sign the agreement with his British counterpart Keir Starmer.

The British government announced that this defense and security treaty aims to strengthen military cooperation in the face of the growing threats in Europe. London recently concluded similar agreements with France and Germany.

Although the two countries are already close allies within NATO, Starmer felt that "the challenges facing Europe today require an even stronger partnership."

This initiative comes as European countries face increasing pressure from the US president's administration. Donald Trump to increase their defense spending and responsibilities.

Poland and the United Kingdom have been among Ukraine's main military and political backers since the start of the war with Russia. Tusk stated that both governments viewed Moscow as "a strategic and long-term threat" to Europe and NATO.

The treaty should in particular strengthen cooperation in security, intelligence and military defence between Warsaw and London.
