The Kremlin maintains that Russia's conditions for a peace agreement in Ukraine have remained unchanged since 2024.

The Kremlin said on Monday that Russia's position regarding the conditions of a possible peace agreement with Ukraine had not changed since the demands made by President Vladimir Putin in 2024.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow maintained the same conditions, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the four regions claimed by Russia — Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia — as well as Kyiv's abandonment of its NATO membership project.

"Our position is well known. In reality, it has not changed. It was set out two years ago by our head of state in a speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is well known to the regime in Kyiv, it is well known to the American negotiators, and it is perfectly consistent," Peskov told reporters.

This statement comes the day after a televised interview with Vladimir Putin, during which the Russian president asserted that Russia would pursue its goal of taking full control of the four Ukrainian regions claimed by Moscow, rejecting a new Ukrainian proposal to limit hostilities.

According to Putin, Ukraine has proposed a reciprocal ceasefire on long-range strikes and suggested that fighting be limited to the four affected regions. The Russian president believes this initiative is primarily aimed at relieving pressure on Ukrainian forces on the front lines and indicated that Moscow will not change its military objectives.

Kyiv rejects Russian territorial claims, which it considers an illegal annexation of its territory. The President's Office Volodymyr Zelensky had not immediately reacted to Vladimir Putin's statements.

Dmitri Peskov also indicated that Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko discussed the war in Ukraine during their recent meeting, without giving further details about their discussions.
