The fragile ceasefire is faltering: Israeli strikes kill at least three people in Gaza

At least three Palestinians were killed Sunday in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, according to local health officials, reviving concerns about the strength of the US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Among the victims were two members of the Hamas police force, including the police chief of Khan Younis and his deputy, Palestinian medical sources said.

According to rescue services, an Israeli airstrike also targeted the Maghazi refugee camp in the center of the Palestinian enclave. The attack killed one person and wounded two others.

The Israeli army confirmed it had carried out strikes against militants, claiming to target armed members of Hamas. Israel regularly accuses the Palestinian movement of violating the ceasefire terms by continuing certain military activities in the enclave.

For its part, Hamas accuses Israel of continuing to carry out deadly operations despite the truce that came into effect in October under US mediation. Both sides accuse each other of numerous violations since the signing of the agreement.

Sunday's violence underscores the continued fragility of the ceasefire, reached after months of devastating war in the Gaza Strip. Despite a relative decrease in fighting, strikes, gunfire, and armed incidents continue to threaten diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region.

The humanitarian situation remains extremely critical in the Palestinian enclave, where much of the infrastructure has been destroyed and hundreds of thousands of civilians still depend on international aid to survive.
