Denmark promises to defend "every inch" of its territory against American ambitions in Greenland

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen affirmed on Wednesday that her country was ready to defend "every inch" of NATO territory, including the entire Kingdom of Denmark, following the latest statements by the US president. Donald Trump on Greenland.

On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Mette Frederiksen responded to Donald Trump's remarks the previous day, in which he reiterated his desire to see Greenland come under American control. The Danish Prime Minister reaffirmed her country's commitment to the Atlantic Alliance while emphasizing its determination to protect its territory.

Greenland, an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, occupies a strategic position in the Arctic and is attracting increasing interest from major powers due to its geographical location and natural resources.

Despite the tensions caused by the statements of the American president, the Danish foreign minister believed that an agreement on Greenland-related issues remained possible, without giving further details on the nature of a possible compromise.

The statements come as NATO leaders are meeting in Ankara to discuss the Alliance's key security issues, against a backdrop of tensions in Europe, the Middle East and the Arctic.
