The director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Naryshkin, accused NATO of making concrete preparations for a “large-scale conflict in the East,” according to remarks reported by the state news agency RIA.
According to these statements, the Russian official believes that the Western military alliance would strengthen its capabilities and plans in connection with a possible future confrontation with Russia.
He also asserted that the European Union is accelerating its rearmament and would evolve towards an increasingly military structure, which he described as "directed against Russia".
These accusations come amid strong and persistent tensions between Moscow and Western countries since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, as well as the intensification of defense programs in Europe.
NATO did not immediately respond to these new statements reported by Russian media.
