The death toll from the floods in Kenya has reached 62.

At least 62 people, including eight children, have died after heavy rains and floods hit Kenya in recent days, authorities said.

The capital, Nairobi, is the hardest-hit area, with 33 deaths reported, according to a police statement. The severe weather caused flash floods, destroying homes, vehicles, and infrastructure in several parts of the city.

In the Grogan district, known for its auto repair shops and spare parts markets, flooding swept away cars and damaged numerous businesses. Images broadcast by the media show submerged streets and vehicles piled on top of each other after the waters receded.

Authorities indicated that rescue operations were continuing to find any possible victims and assist residents affected by the severe weather. Rescue and police teams were deployed to several disaster areas.

Heavy rains that have hit the country since the end of last week have also caused damage in other parts of Kenya, where roads have been cut off and homes destroyed.

Meteorological services have warned of continued rainfall in the coming days, raising fears of worsening flooding in some already fragile areas.
