Lavrov in China for strategic talks on Iran and Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Beijing for a series of talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, focusing on major international issues, including the conflicts in Ukraine and Iran.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, this visit aims to conduct an "in-depth exchange of views" on regional crises and major geopolitical issues, in a context of increased global tensions.

Discussions will also focus on strengthening cooperation between Russia and China, as well as their coordination within international organizations such as the United Nations, BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the G20.

This meeting is part of the ongoing close strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing, described as "without limits" since 2022, shortly before the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine.

In a context marked by simultaneous crises in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Sergey Lavrov's visit illustrates the desire of the two powers to coordinate their diplomatic positions and to jointly influence international balances.
