Australia tours Asia to secure its energy supplies

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will embark on a diplomatic tour of Japan, China and South Korea to strengthen cooperation on energy security amid tensions in global markets.

This initiative comes as the conflict in the Middle East disrupts supply chains and causes significant fluctuations in energy prices, directly affecting importing countries like Australia.

In Tokyo, Penny Wong is due to meet with her Japanese counterpart to discuss energy security and fuel supplies, as well as the geopolitical consequences of current tensions.

The visit to China will include a strategic dialogue with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, aimed at strengthening cooperation while managing persistent differences between Canberra and Beijing.

In South Korea, the minister will meet with Cho Hyun, highlighting Seoul's importance as a key supplier of refined fuels to Australia.

Heavily dependent on energy imports, Australia has recently experienced localized shortages, revealing its vulnerability to international crises.

This tour aims to consolidate regional partnerships and ensure better coordination in the face of global energy uncertainties.
