Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking a bus full of children; Kyiv categorically rejects the accusations

Russia on Wednesday accused Ukraine of carrying out a drone attack on a bus transporting Belarusian schoolchildren in the Bryansk region, near the Ukrainian border. Kyiv quickly rejected the accusations, calling the version of events "false."

According to Russian authorities, the incident occurred in the Bryansk region, which is regularly affected by the consequences of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The region's acting governor, Yegor Kovalchuk, stated that the vehicle was carrying a football team of children from Belarus who were traveling to southern Russia for a holiday.

Russian officials described the alleged attack as a Ukrainian drone strike that directly targeted the bus. Moscow condemned the incident as particularly serious because children were on board. However, authorities did not immediately provide any information that would allow for independent verification of the exact circumstances of the incident.

For its part, the Ukrainian army firmly denied the Russian accusations. In a statement, it asserted that Moscow's allegations were false and denied any involvement in an attack on a bus carrying children.

Since the beginning of the war, Russia and Ukraine have regularly accused each other of attacks against civilians or non-military infrastructure. In many cases, it proves difficult to quickly verify the claims of both sides due to access restrictions to the areas concerned and the information warfare that accompanies the conflict.

This new controversy comes as fighting continues on several fronts and tensions remain extremely high between Moscow and Kyiv. In the absence of independent verification, the exact circumstances of the incident remain disputed.
