The ICC denies arrest warrants against Israeli officials and rebukes an Israeli media outlet

The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Sunday firmly denied press reports claiming that new arrest warrants had been issued against several Israeli political and military officials for alleged crimes against Palestinians.

In a note to journalists, ICC spokeswoman Oriane Maillet said the information published by the Israeli daily Haaretz was "inaccurate".

"The Court denies the issuance of new arrest warrants in connection with the situation in the State of Palestine," said the representative of the international judicial institution based in The Hague.

The Israeli newspaper article claimed that five more Israeli officials were now subject to arrest warrants related to the ICC investigations into violence in the Palestinian territories. However, the Court did not provide any further details on the exact status of its ongoing proceedings.

The issue of ICC investigations concerning Israel and the Palestinian territories remains extremely sensitive diplomatically and politically. Israel has long contested the Court's jurisdiction in this matter and rejects accusations against its leaders or its army.

The ICC's investigations focus in particular on alleged crimes committed in the Palestinian territories in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has intensified further with the war in Gaza.

This denial comes amid a particularly tense international climate surrounding international legal actions related to the conflict, as several human rights organizations continue to demand prosecutions against those responsible for violence committed on both sides.
