The British foreign minister traveled to China and then India to address major global crises.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper will begin an official visit to China on Monday before continuing her trip to India later in the week. This diplomatic journey will focus on several major international issues, ranging from tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the war in Ukraine to the Ebola epidemic currently affecting Central Africa.

During her visit to China, Yvette Cooper is scheduled to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. Discussions are expected to focus on current geopolitical challenges and opportunities for cooperation between London and Beijing.

The British official will also visit Shenzhen, a major technology hub in southern China, where her program will focus on science and technology. This visit reflects the British government's commitment to strengthening exchanges in the strategic sectors of innovation and new technologies.

This visit comes amid a gradual warming of relations between the United Kingdom and China. Last January, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited China, becoming the first British head of government to make such a visit in eight years.

On this occasion, Starmer and the Chinese president Xi Jinping had expressed their willingness to revive bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and technology. The British Labour government has made improving ties with Beijing one of its diplomatic priorities.

After her stop in China, Yvette Cooper will continue her tour in India, where she is scheduled to meet with her Indian counterpart. London hopes to strengthen its partnerships with two of the leading Asian powers while coordinating its efforts in the face of the international crises currently dominating the global diplomatic agenda.
