Kim Jong-un oversees new weapons tests and increases military pressure on the southern border

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw tests of new weapons systems aimed at bolstering North Korea's firepower along the border with South Korea, the official KCNA news agency reported. These tests are part of the country's accelerated military modernization strategy.

The tests, conducted on Thursday, included an improved version of a 240mm 24-tube multiple rocket launcher system, tactical ballistic missiles, and a 155mm self-propelled howitzer. They were carried out to mark the anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War (1950-1953), a symbolically significant moment for Pyongyang.

According to KCNA, the modernized rocket launcher system now features autonomous precision guidance and has a range extended to approximately 90 kilometers. North Korean authorities emphasize these increased accuracy and range capabilities as part of their military programs.

Kim Jong-un expressed satisfaction with the test results and emphasized the continued development of weapons systems based on automation and "ultra-high" precision. The North Korean leader also stressed that these efforts were aimed at strengthening the country's defenses against South Korea.

These new displays of force come amid persistent tensions on the Korean Peninsula. For several months, Pyongyang has been increasing its tests of ballistic missiles, rockets and precision weapons, while continuing to modernize its conventional capabilities.

According to several analysts, this military buildup is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the country's defensive posture and further integrating its nuclear and conventional capabilities. North Korea now states that it considers its relationship with South Korea to be that of "two hostile states," marking a hardening of its security doctrine.
