Israel will release and expel the militants from the flotilla bound for Gaza

Activists arrested after Israel intercepted the Global Sumud flotilla bound for Gaza are to be released and then expelled from Israeli territory, according to reports on Friday.

The flotilla, organized by pro-Palestinian activists, claimed to be carrying humanitarian aid destined for the Gaza Strip when it was intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters.

Among those detained is Spanish activist Saif Abu Keshek, who appeared in court this week in Beersheba, in southern Israel.

The governments of Brazil and Spain condemned the detention, deeming it illegal. The Israeli human rights organization Adalah stated that it would monitor the proceedings to ensure the activists are indeed released and deported in accordance with the authorities' announcements.

The case comes amid high tensions surrounding Gaza and Israeli operations in the region, while several international organizations are calling for broader humanitarian access to the Palestinian territory.
