Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said his country would target anyone promoting "radical" ideas directed against Israel, as tensions remain extremely high in the Middle East following the outbreak of the war involving Iran.
Asked in New York about the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader, following the death of his father Ali Khamenei on the first day of the conflict, Danny Danon asserted that this change of leadership would not alter the nature of the Iranian regime.
“Changing the leader doesn’t change the regime,” he told reporters. According to him, the new Iranian leader is “even more steeped in the same ideology and the same radical ideas.”
The Israeli ambassador also warned that any person or organization spreading ideas hostile to Israel could be targeted. "Anyone who spreads these radical ideas against us, we will target them, we will find them," he stated.
Danny Danon also called on the Iranian people to rise up and choose their future leader. He added that Israel and its allies were seeking to create conditions that would allow Iranians to challenge their political power.
Asked about the threats to energy traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian attacks against some neighboring countries, the diplomat assured that Israel and the United States were continuing their operations to track down Iranian missile launchers and reduce their military capabilities.
These statements come amid a sharp military escalation in the Middle East, where clashes and diplomatic tensions continue to fuel fears of a wider regional conflict.
