Indonesian authorities announced Tuesday the end of search operations after a landfill collapse near Jakarta, an accident that killed seven people.
The tragedy occurred on Sunday at Bantargebang, the country's largest landfill, located in Bekasi, on the outskirts of the Indonesian capital. A pile of waste collapsed following heavy rains, burying several people present at the site.
Rescue teams have called off the search after finding the last victim, said Desiana Kartika Bahari, the local head of rescue operations. A total of seven people were killed in the accident.
Six other people survived the collapse. Authorities initially reported a provisional death toll of four on Monday, while several people were still missing.
The Bantargebang landfill is a major waste processing site for the Jakarta region, where many informal workers salvage recyclable materials from among the waste.
Local authorities indicated that the search had been stopped after police confirmed that all those present at the site at the time of the accident had been found.
