Greece: Social media will be banned for those under 15 from 2027

Greece will ban children under 15 from accessing social media from January 1, 2027, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced.

This measure is part of an effort to combat the negative effects of digital platforms on young people. The head of government cited an increase in anxiety, sleep disorders, and the impact of addictive mechanisms on social media.

In a message to young people, Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned of the consequences of excessive screen use, including the pressure of constant comparisons and online interactions.

This decision enjoys widespread public support: according to a recent poll, approximately 80% of respondents support it.

The Greek government has already taken several measures in this area, including banning mobile phones in schools and implementing parental control tools to limit teenagers' screen time.

This initiative is part of a broader trend in Europe, where several countries are considering further regulating the use of social media among minors in response to growing concerns about their mental health.
