Donor countries providing aid to the Palestinians have pledged nearly €900 million to support the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, the European Commission announced on Monday. This initial funding will finance clearing operations and the restoration of essential infrastructure, including access to water and sanitation networks.
The European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, clarified that this funding can only be released if security conditions allow for the delivery of aid to the population. She also stated that this process requires the disarmament of Hamas, which still maintains a presence in part of the Palestinian enclave.
Aid remains difficult to deliver.
The announced funds include financial commitments already pledged for Gaza and aim to accelerate the reconstruction of a territory largely devastated by two years of war. Despite the ceasefire that came into effect in October 2025, the destruction remains extensive and humanitarian needs are still very high.
The European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, raised the alarm about the humanitarian situation in the enclave, stating that residents still lack the basic necessities of life. She also denounced the extremely difficult conditions under which international humanitarian organizations are continuing their operations on the ground.
