Five Palestinians were killed and 18 others wounded Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike targeting an apartment in a residential building in central Gaza City, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
The organization indicated that its rescue teams had recovered four bodies and evacuated 18 injured after the attack on a house near the al-Israa tower, located on Omar al-Muktar Street.
The Israeli army claimed to have targeted two senior Hamas members in the northern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the individuals targeted were the commander of Hamas's northern Gaza brigade and the deputy commander of the Gaza City brigade, without disclosing their identities.
At 20:00 GMT, Hamas had not responded to the Israeli claims.
Since October 2023, the war in the Gaza Strip has caused tens of thousands of deaths and massive destruction of civilian infrastructure, according to Palestinian authorities and several international organizations.
