Taiwan: Xi Jinping hardens his stance and rules out any independence during a meeting with the opposition

The Chinese president Xi Jinping called for accelerating the development of a new energy system to ensure the country's energy security, amid strong turbulence in global markets linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking according to remarks broadcast by state television CCTV, the Chinese leader stressed the need for enhanced planning and rapid implementation of this energy strategy. This approach aims to reduce China's vulnerabilities to external shocks, particularly those affecting energy supplies.

Xi Jinping also stressed the importance of developing renewable energy, particularly hydropower, while continuing environmental protection efforts. He further advocated for the "safe and orderly" development of nuclear energy.

The president stated that the Central Committee of the Communist Party had deepened its understanding of global energy trends and made major decisions to strengthen national energy security. These decisions are part of a broader strategy for transitioning to a low-carbon model.

Although he did not directly mention the ongoing war, his statements come as international tensions, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, continue to disrupt energy markets. Beijing is thus seeking to anticipate risks and secure its resources in an unstable global environment.
