Norwegian police are searching for a suspect after an explosion at the US embassy in Oslo on Sunday, an incident for which the possibility of terrorism is currently being investigated.
According to authorities, the explosion, which occurred early Sunday morning, damaged the entrance to the consular section of the embassy. The device used was an improvised explosive device (IED), which caused a powerful blast and sent thick smoke into the street. No injuries were reported.
Investigators have released CCTV footage showing an individual with their face concealed, wearing dark clothing and carrying a bag or backpack. The suspect's identity has not yet been established.
Police indicated that a terrorist act was among the leads being investigated, without ruling out other possible motives. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the attack and any potential links to international tensions.
Among the items examined by investigators is also a video of the Iranian supreme leader that was broadcast online and is being studied as part of the investigation, as the conflict involving Iran and its adversaries raises heightened security concerns.
Norwegian authorities have increased security measures around diplomatic sites in Oslo while the investigation continues to identify and locate the perpetrator of the explosion.
