Evacuation of a Turkish Airlines plane after a technical incident in Kathmandu

A Turkish Airlines flight was evacuated on Monday in Nepal after smoke appeared near the landing gear during taxiing after landing at Kathmandu airport.

According to initial reports from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, a fire broke out in the right rear tire of the aircraft, an Airbus A330, shortly after the plane had landed.

Ground crews quickly intervened to control the situation using water and cooling equipment before the aircraft was towed to a safe area. All passengers were evacuated without major incident, and no injuries were reported.

The incident resulted in the temporary closure of the airport for approximately one hour, disrupting air traffic before a gradual resumption of operations.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the overheating or fire in the landing gear.
