United States: Soldier's wife released, but threatened with deportation by immigration authorities

The wife of an American soldier, arrested by immigration services, has been released from a detention center, but remains under threat of deportation, according to US authorities.

The young woman, 22-year-old Annie Yaritza Ramos Alvarado, was detained on April 2nd by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Department of Homeland Security justified the arrest by stating that she did not have legal status to reside in the United States.

Recently married to Sergeant Matthew Blank, she had gone to a military base in Louisiana to begin the process of being officially recognized as a military spouse. According to relatives, ICE agents intervened directly at the base to arrest her.

His release comes as the president's administration Donald Trump pursues a strict migration policy, marked by an intensification of deportations. Several human rights organizations have denounced this case, seeing it as a symbol of the system's excesses.

Despite his release, the deportation proceedings against him remain ongoing. This situation underscores the persistent tensions surrounding US immigration policy and its consequences, including for military families.
