Alleged espionage for China: London summons Chinese ambassador after explosive conviction

The United Kingdom has announced the summoning of the Chinese ambassador following the conviction of two men found guilty of spying for Hong Kong and, according to British authorities, ultimately for Beijing.

British Security Secretary Dan Jarvis condemned the activities as "an attack on the sovereignty" of the United Kingdom. He stated that this type of operation would "never be tolerated" on British soil.

According to London, the two men were acting on behalf of China in espionage activities targeting British interests. Authorities have not publicly disclosed all the relevant information, but this case is exacerbating already significant tensions between the two countries.

The British government indicated that the Foreign Office would formally summon the Chinese ambassador to convey a clear message about the "unacceptable" nature of such activities in the UK.

In response, the Chinese embassy in London firmly rejected the accusations. In a statement, Beijing denounced what it considers a "political maneuver" and an abuse of the British judicial system.

Chinese authorities believe this case is a political manipulation of the justice system and have assured that they will take the necessary measures to defend their interests.

This new diplomatic crisis comes amid growing mistrust between London and Beijing over security, interference and surveillance issues, as several Western countries strengthen their measures against espionage activities attributed to China.
