Erdogan congratulates the new Hungarian leader and hopes for a strengthening of bilateral relations.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his confidence in the future of relations between Turkey and Hungary, following Peter Magyar's electoral victory.

During a telephone conversation, Erdogan congratulated the new Hungarian leader on his success and said he was convinced that bilateral relations would see further progress, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.

The Turkish head of state also indicated his desire to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries, both NATO members. This cooperation could take place within a geopolitical context marked by heightened tensions in Europe and the Middle East.

The statement comes the day after a major political change in Hungary, where Viktor Orbán's defeat after 16 years in power has reshuffled the cards on the European stage.

Ankara thus seems to want to quickly establish constructive relations with the new Hungarian leadership, in order to maintain solid cooperation within NATO and on common strategic issues.
