Ebola in the DRC: the number of confirmed cases reaches 1,708, with 580 deaths recorded

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has now risen to 1,708, including 580 deaths, according to government data published Wednesday, July 8.

This latest increase confirms the progression of the epidemic in the country, where health authorities are monitoring the disease and trying to limit its spread. The figures reported include only cases officially confirmed by health services.

The situation remains particularly worrying in eastern DRC, a region already facing significant humanitarian challenges. Officials have reported at least 30 deaths in a camp for displaced people, raising fears of a rapid spread of the virus in areas where sanitary conditions are fragile.

Health workers continue their surveillance, patient care and prevention operations, including through control measures aimed at reducing the risks of transmission.

The Ebola epidemic poses a major challenge for Congolese authorities, who must contend with logistical and security constraints in several affected areas. The disease, known for its high mortality rate, is primarily transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected or deceased individuals.
