Arab and Islamist states condemn Ben Gvir after the detention of activists from the Gaza flotilla

Several Arab-Islamic countries condemned on Sunday the actions of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, after the release of a video showing activists from the humanitarian flotilla to Gaza being held by Israel.

The foreign ministers of the group condemned the treatment of the flotilla participants, who were attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The controversy erupted after Ben Gvir posted a video in which he mocked activists who had been restrained on the ground by security forces.

Several detainees subsequently claimed to have suffered physical violence during their detention. The Israeli prison administration rejected these accusations, asserting that procedures had been followed.

This case comes amid persistent regional tensions surrounding the war in Gaza and the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave, which is regularly denounced by many Arab countries and international organizations.

Itamar Ben Gvir, a figure of the Israeli far right and a key ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is regularly criticized by Arab governments and human rights organizations for his radical positions and controversial statements.

The states that reacted called on Israel to respect the rights of detainees and to guarantee access for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
