Brazil: Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro neck and neck in the presidential race

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro are now neck and neck ahead of a second round of the presidential election scheduled for October, according to a poll published Wednesday.

According to this survey conducted by the Quaest Institute for the Genial company, Flavio Bolsonaro would obtain 42% of the vote intentions against 40% for Lula in a runoff election. This is the first time the senator has appeared in the lead, although the gap remains within the margin of error.

The poll marks a significant shift compared to March, when both candidates were credited with 41% each in a similar scenario. This increase suggests a tightening of the competition as the election approaches.

In the first round, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva remains in the lead with 37% of the vote, ahead of his main rivals, including Flavio Bolsonaro. However, this lead may prove insufficient to guarantee victory without a second round.

This electoral dynamic illustrates the persistent polarization of political life in Brazil, where figures linked to the two dominant camps continue to capture the bulk of voter support.

Several months before the election, these results remain subject to change, but they confirm a close competition that could be decided by narrow margins in the second round.
