Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva would come out on top in a possible second round of the presidential election against opposition senator Flávio Bolsonaro, according to an AtlasIntel/Bloomberg poll published Wednesday.
According to this opinion poll, Lula would garner 48,8% of the vote, compared to 42,3% for Flávio Bolsonaro. The son of former president Jair Bolsonaro thus appears to be trailing in this hypothetical electoral contest.
The poll also highlights a trend favoring the head of state compared to previous surveys. In April, the two candidates were neck and neck, with 48% of voting intentions each, illustrating a shift in favor of the incumbent president.
In another scenario of a second round open to multiple candidates, Lula would also retain the lead with 46,3% of the vote. Flávio Bolsonaro would obtain 36,6%, while the other candidates would share smaller percentages: Renan Santos with 7,8%, Ronaldo Caiado with 2,9%, and Romeu Zema with 2,0%.
The survey was conducted among 4,999 people between the 26th and an unspecified date in the information provided. It comes in a Brazilian political context marked by strong polarization between supporters of the incumbent president and those of the Bolsonaro family, which remains influential on the national political scene.
