Air India: CEO Campbell Wilson resigns amid crisis and regulatory pressures

Air India's chief executive, Campbell Wilson, has announced his resignation after nearly four years at the helm of the company, amid persistent losses and increased scrutiny from authorities.

The company stated that Campbell Wilson would remain in his position until a successor is appointed, to ensure a smooth transition. This decision comes as the company faces financial difficulties and safety-related criticism.

Air India has been under particular pressure since last year's crash, which killed 260 people and led regulators to point out shortcomings. Despite these challenges, Campbell Wilson had initiated a transformation of the company, notably through the modernization of its fleet and technical systems.

This resignation comes amid broader turbulence in the Indian aviation sector. It follows another major departure, that of the CEO of IndiGo, who recently announced a change in leadership.

The country's two main airlines are suffering the combined effects of geopolitical tensions, particularly those related to the Middle East, and internal operational difficulties. The appointment of Air India's next CEO will be crucial in trying to turn the situation around and restore confidence.
