A march brought together several hundred people in Rabat to mark Palestinian Prisoners' Day, in a show of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The gathering, organized by the National Action Group for Palestine and the Moroccan Front for the Support of Palestine, took place between Bab el-Had Square and the Parliament building.
The participants, who came from various cities in Morocco, waved Palestinian flags and images of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Throughout the procession, they chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian resistance, calling for the release of prisoners and the protection of holy sites.
The protesters also expressed their opposition to a bill in the Israeli Knesset that would allow the death penalty to be applied to Palestinian prisoners. They demanded its withdrawal, denouncing the measure as a violation of fundamental rights.
Beyond this demand, the protesters condemned Israeli military operations and called on Moroccan authorities to halt the normalization process with Israel. The public support of Moroccan footballer Hakim Ziyech for the Palestinian cause was applauded through several slogans.
On site, Mohammed El Fassi, a participant in the march, emphasized the scale of the mobilization, noting the participation of people from all segments of society. For her part, Semah Chatibi, an 18-year-old student, stressed the role of young people in raising awareness of the Palestinian cause, particularly through social media.
Established in 1974 by the Palestinian National Council, Palestinian Prisoners' Day is marked annually by demonstrations and initiatives aimed at drawing international attention to the plight of prisoners. According to several human rights organizations, more than 9,600 Palestinians, including women and children, are currently imprisoned in Israeli jails, in conditions that are regularly denounced.
