Abu Dhabi hosted the third International Dialogue of Civilizations and Tolerance Conference (IDCT 2026), an event that brought together political leaders, academics, diplomats, and religious leaders from around the world to discuss ways to strengthen peaceful coexistence among peoples. Under the theme of the impact of family and global partnerships in promoting tolerance, the conference highlighted the challenges facing contemporary societies.

Among the speakers was Hassan Chalghoumi, imam of Drancy and president of the Conference of Imams of France. Invited to speak at this international event, he advocated a vision based on interreligious dialogue, education, and the fight against hate speech. In an international context marked by conflicts and identity-based tensions, he called for building more bridges between cultures, religions, and peoples.

The imam identified three major challenges for the future of humanity. First, he emphasized the need for quality education capable of producing responsible citizens, attached to their heritage while remaining open to the world. He also stressed the importance of enlightened religious discourse that promotes human fraternity, mutual respect, and the dignity of every person.

Finally, Hassan Chalghoumi warned of the challenges posed by the rise of artificial intelligence and social media. He argued that these tools should be used to promote knowledge, dialogue, and peace, rather than becoming vectors of hatred, radicalization, or extremism. This message resonated particularly strongly at a conference largely devoted to the transformations of the contemporary world.

At the conclusion of his address, the president of the Conference of Imams of France commended the United Arab Emirates' commitment to tolerance and interfaith dialogue. He also paid tribute to the Emirati president, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, highlighting his vision for peaceful coexistence and respect for diversity. "Together, let us make dialogue triumph over division and hope over hatred," he declared, summarizing the spirit of this international meeting held in the Emirati capital.
